Thisis the first phase of a group project where the project idea isdeveloped and overviewed. You can begin a new project by definingits aim, scope, purpose, objectives and deliverables to be formed.You will also be required to setup the Project Office, hire yourproject team, and analyze the project so that to gain approval tostart the next phase.

Overall,there are six key steps that one need to take to initiate a newproject properly. These Project Initiation steps can be as follows:

i.Develop a Business Case: This will help you identify the detailedbenefits and costs of your project solution, providing confidence toyour sponsor that the solution endorsed is the most feasible. Thiswill help you to gain approval of the business case and secure thefunding you need, to get started.

ii.Undertake a Feasibility Test: This test is conducted to determinewhether the project is feasible within the available resources andunder certain constraints. The type of feasibility tests can fallunder the following categories.

• EconomicalFeasibility

Inthis category the research is based on the economic resourcesavailable in terms of funds where it has to be pre-determined whetherthe amount spends in developing this project will be achieved andregained back after the system begins functioning.


Thisfeasibility is always conducted to determine whether the solution isapplicable within the existing managerial and organizationalframework. The various operations involved in developing the projectare they feasible for instance in terms of skills?

• TechnicalFeasibility

Thisstudy is done to determine whether the proposed system can beimplemented with the available hardware, software, and technicalresources so as to enhance the functionalities of the project to bedeveloped.

iii.Establish the Project Charter: This will help you define the scopeof the project, its objectives, implementation and sets out theproject vision, thereby, giving the team clear boundaries withinwhich the project must be delivered. The project will be in linedwith the customer requirements when this phase is undertakenproperly.

iv.Appoint the Project Team: Completing a Project Job Description isvery challenging and time-consuming since it defines the targets fora particular role. It also outlines how those targets are going to bemeasured and how the performance of the role will be assessed. vi.Perform a phase review: Project Phase reviews are conducted at theend of the execution, planning and Initiation phases in the project.The form can help you to complete a project outline for the`Initiation` project phase.


Thesolution is defined in detail in the planning phase. What to build,how to build it, who will build it, and when it will be built aresome of the things considered. The team works through the designprocess in this phase to create the solution architecture and design,prepares cost estimates, work plans and schedules for the variousdeliverables and writes the functional specification. This ensuresproper budget utilization, time management and time delivery of theproject to the customers.


Inthis phase, it is implementing or putting the project in place toperform the task it is intended to. By doing this one will be in aposition to identify the errors that may occur on the project thuscorrecting them earlier enough.

Yoursuccess will be measured on how well you achieve the projectobjectives which is very evident in the execution phase and also howmuch have you stayed on schedule, budget and have you deliveredquality product and what are the customer views on it.


Thisphase goes hand in hand with the execution phase as shown in thediagram above and it involves keeping track of the projectperformance and assessing whether the intended purpose is beingattained. By monitoring the project, changes can be made whenever theneeds arise. Training can be implemented in this phase so as us theusers can identify the possible difficulties as earlier as possible.


Itis the final phase of the project that is done when everything isdone, and it is properly functioning with the easy effort requiredfor that. It can be accompanied with different documents such as theguidance manuals.

Forthe database part that happens to fall during the execution phasediscussed above, several models are considered one of them being thephysical model. For one to develop this physical model, he/she has tocome with the conceptual and logical design model first

Itcan be observed that the complexity increases from conceptual tological to physical. This is why one is always advised to start withthe conceptual data model so that one can understand at a high levelwhat the different entities in the data are. Additionally, one canalso know how they interrelate. He/she will then move on to thelogical data model where one understands the details of the datawithout worrying about how they will be implemented. Finally, onewill be conversant with the physical data model where one knowsexactly how to implement the data model in the database of choice. Ina data warehousing project, sometimes the intangible data model andthe logical data model are considered as a single deliverable.
