Effectivecommunication is a key aspect of a good relationship between people. It goes beyond the just simple exchange of information to incorporateunderstanding the emotions and intentions relayed in the informationbeing exchanged (Ryan, 2014). The three key communication suggestionsthat I would offer the new managers to improve their communicationskills are becoming a better listener observing nonverbal actions andkeeping their emotions in check.

Becominga better listener- As a good listener, one can engage with the speaker at a personallevel to understand their message. Being a good listener comes withvarious traits. These include focusing fully on the speaker avoidinterrupting as they speak and providing feedback. They should showinterest as they listen and engage the speaker, for instance bynodding or verbal responses like yes or no.

ObservingNon-Verbal Actions- Non-verbal actions such as facial expressions, body posture andgestures add substance and emotions to what is being said verbally.As a result, watching out for these actions helps one improve theircommunication by using body language, for example, maintaining eyecontact with the person you are talking to. Non-verbal actions alsohelp put emphasis on the key points being said, for example pattingsomeone on the shoulder to appreciate their good deeds.

KeepingEmotions under Control– Emotions and stress, if not well checked and controlled candistort the message being conveyed or kill the listener’s attention(Ryan, 2014). Therefore, the managers should keep their stress andemotions in check so as not to do or say something inappropriate asthey interact with their staff. This will help them to avoidmisreading people, sending confused nonverbal cues and verbalprovocation or unnecessary arguments.
