Email– This application helps the workers to receive electronic mail andreply to the same. Through this application, the user can receivework-related emails, and other files, from wherever they are.
Calendar– This application shows the users’ work schedule, according todays, weeks and numbers. The calendar helps the user to makeschedules in time and to avoid missing out crucial appointments.
MicrosoftExchange ActiveSync – This application is designed to help theusers synchronize their email, contacts, and other tasks betweentheir computers and smartphones.
MEDITECH-This is an application, which delivers information patient’s vitalsigns, their medication, laboratory results, and other informationpertinent to medical care. The application helps the practitioners toaccess information related to patients, and make clinical decisionsin a timely manner.
EprocratesEssentials – This is an accessory application that helps thedoctors to interpret laboratory results, and to obtain other relevantmedical information.
ChainlingMobile – This is another customized application used by drivers toupdate shipment information, collect signatures, and informationabout their location by use of Geological Information Systems. Byusing this application, managers and drivers can manage logisticalinformation, and make timely deliveries.
Unnamedapplication by Timothy Childs – This is an application that wasdeveloped a business owner to help him remotely control operations ofhis chocolate factory. Using the application on the iPhone, the ownercould regulate the machines, switch them on and off, and survey livefootage of the operations floor. This way, he does not have tomonitor the operations manually, and as such, can improveproductivity of the chocolate factory.

The applications described in the case study have helped themanagement and workers to solve a number of issues related tocommunications and logistics. The email, calendar and MicrosoftExchange ActiveSync, despite being non-customized applications, havehelped the users to solve challenges in communication. Initially,communication modules in organizations were manual-based, and peoplewould take up to several hours, or days, to receive criticalinformation. However, by using these applications, they can receivethe information almost instantaneously, and respond swiftly. Thishelp them to avoid inconveniences associated with delayedcommunication.
Similarly, the customized applications, MEDITECH, Epocrite Essentialsand the one developed by Timothy Childs have helped the users tosolve logistical and operations challenges in the various areas theyare used. MEDITECH helps the healthcare providers to avoid confusionsassociated with handling large volumes of data, such as nurses’notes and medical results. Given the busy nature of hospitalenvironments, using this application helps to minimize errors, whichmay otherwise lead to declined levels of healthcare quality.Similarly, Epocrates Essentials helps the practitioners to managehospital data. Similarly, the hospital applications help themanagement to manage security systems and logistics. The applicationdeveloped by Timothy Childs solves the problems associated with lackof skilled labor to man chocolate production facilities, henceimprove the quality of products coming through the production line.
Q3.Kind of businesses that benefit from the applications

However, there are thosethat are most likely to record bigger improvements in theiroperations than others are. Businesses in the production industrystand to benefit the most by equipping their employees with mobiledigital devices. By using the applications in these devises, themanagement and employees can control the production process,specifically by improving labor efficiency and time management. Theexact businesses in the production industry include line assembly,manufacturing and merchandising.
Web-based businesses also stand to benefit from digitization greatly.These businesses deal with online clients, for instance, onlinearticle publication, design, programming and others. These arebusinesses that deal with the clients indirectly, meaning the thereis no physical contact that is established between them. Using themobile digital devices, the employees can contact their clients fromwherever they are stationed, without having to use office equipment.
Q4.IPhone as an industry changer
By terming iPhone as an industry changer, the D.W Morgan’s ChiefExecutive Officer puts the gadget in an industrial-level informationtool. The gadget intrinsically improves the way that employees andthe management, and customers and businesses interact. In order to bean industry changer, a gadget has to affect two main elements ofbusiness operation. These are communication and efficiency. This is the reason why several organizationshave provided their employees with iPhones, and have realizedsubstantial results. By internally revolutionizing communications,and improving efficiency, the businesses are able to improve theirrelationships with suppliers, and those with their customers.
