One’sLegacy and how it Impacts His/her Life

Humanbeings are bound to die at some point, leaving behind memories thatlive on forever. Therefore, many people desire to leave a mark on theworld to be remembered for. The imprint that we all leave when we diewhich can either be good/bad or else positive or negative. It is upto every individual to determine the legacy that he/she wants toleave the world with. Legacy constitutes what people see`s you to be,act and also how they remember you once you are gone (Barton, 2013).Leaving a legacy requires hard work, commitment, and proper use ofour inherent talents to fulfill our purpose on earth which in turnimpacts on our lives positively. This essay is a discussion on how todiscover one’s legacy and the positive impact of fulfilling it.

Legaciesdo not happen overnight or by chance, but, deliberately craft overmany years. They require hard work and dedication. The first step tohaving a good legacy is identifying the personal mission (Rohn et.al., 2012). Every person is born unique with different talents tofulfill a certain unique mission in this world. Fulfillment of thismission leads to personal satisfaction and recognition by othersleaving behind a good legacy. Family, friends, relatives and evenstrangers should be able to tell what your mission is based on theactions that you undertake leading to your legacy. You should thinkabout your purpose which is the highest calling that you feel youshould accomplish (Hamilton, 2006). You should also consider yourvalues, behavioral standards, and your character which forms yourpersonality and morality when formulating your mission.

Thepersonal mission influences one’s life by acting as a strongmotivator and directing every aspect of a person’s life (Rohn et.al., 2012). Before making critical decisions that affect thedirection of your life, you should reflect on your mission first assee whether it is in line with the legacy you want to leave behind. If the decision is line with the mission, it is no brainer that youshould follow it. However, if the decision detracts or contradictsyour personal mission, it is advisable not to go through with it.

Aftercreating, and identifying one’s mission, the next step is cementingyour desired legacy by fulfilling your mission. Living the missionentails putting our talents to use and taking actions guided towardsthe accomplishment of the mission (Hamilton, 2006). Actions mayinclude making behavior changes, developing character, gettingnecessary education, and building relationships (Barton, 2013). Italso entails making desirable contributions to the society, family, and profession. Avoid distractions from daily activities and keepsight of the bigger picture. Grab every opportunity that helps youfulfill your legacy and act on it. Make sure that at the end of theday you evaluate the events and note down the good things you haveaccomplished so as to monitor your progress over time.

Inaddition, to leave a good legacy requires us to live by example bypracticing our ideas so that others can emulate us. It also requiresa huge degree of sacrifice and serving others selflessly. A legacybenefit future generations just like a farmer plants a tree, knowingvery well he will never eat its fruit (Rohn et. al., 2012).Therefore, creating a legacy requires one to be selfless by doinggood things without expecting anything in return. A person who leavesa legacy understands that he/she is a steward of the world and has aduty to leave it better than they found it. Finally, mentor anotherperson to continue with your legacy by sharing your experiences andawakening their potential.

Inconclusion, everyone desires to leave a good legacy behind. Leaving alegacy entails a few things, deliberate planning and use of ourinherent talents to fulfill our purpose which in turn impacts ourlives positively. The impact in our lives is by providing directionto our actions and acting as a motivator in life. I took varioussteps to come up with this paper. I employed different prewritingstrategies to discover and explore ideas on the legacy and how itimpacts our lives. To start with, I brainstormed on what is legacyand how it impacts our life. Citing key legends such as NelsonMadera, Martin Luther King Jr, and Mother Teresa helped me establishcommonalities such as self-sacrifice and servitude among all of them.I asked myself the Journalists’ questions who, what, where, when, why, and how does one leave a legacy? Finally, I used freewriting tocome up with the introduction to this paper.

Iformulated my thesis statement by finding the main idea which washaving a legacy and analyzing the requirements of leaving this legacywhich were hard work, dedication, and proper utilization of ourtalents. I also considered the impact of these factors in life. Theresulting paper backed up the thesis statement by providing relevantinformation on the requirement and the impacts of a legacy. I revisedonce in light of evidence from the sources and reviewed it papertwice once I was through. I also proofread the final paper and madeall the necessary corrections. In addition, I used also usedMicrosoft word to edit the paper and online grammar and spellingcheck.
