WaterShortage in Arizona

Arizonais known as a State that grows of different crops such as cotton, alfalfa grass and many more. However, some of this crops use a lot ofwater. The problem of water in Arizona started around 1922, afterseven different Western States that share the river’s water met andcame up with an agreement on how they would be able to share theColorado River. Unfortunately, the plan had some shortcomings becauseof the underestimation of the water that the river could provide forthem. In addition, there are records of mismanagement of the waterresources by the different states. The solution to this problem ofshortage of water in the Colorado River would be obtained from waterconservation and the Arizona farmers switching from growing cropsthat use a lot of water to planting other crops that use less water.

WaterShortage in Arizona

Theproblem of water shortage in Arizona is something that has beendiscussed from time in memorial. The levels of water in Lake Mead,Lake Powell and other reservoirs have reduced drastically whichprovide water for Arizona residents. There are different reasons forwater shortage in Arizona. For example, research shows that a lot ofwater that is pumped from the Colorado River to CAP canal has notbeen fully used. This is because the water is stored in undergroundbanks. The government should come up with ways to be able to recoverthe water that is in the CAP canal banks, find ways to conserve theunderground water in counties that go to waste, and educate itsfarmers on alternative crops that they can plant part from cotton.
